We have heard many great things first-hand about LG’s portable air conditioners this past summer. However, when we would look online for a good machine to purchase and test out, it would either have bad to average reviews, was only available as a used or refurbished model, or they were way overpriced.

The LG LP1200DXR is an older machine which I believe was manufactured around 2007 (based on the user manuals printed date). When you look at the newer LG products available online, you will notice that most of them don’t have very high user reviews or ratings. That is why we chose this unit to test out.

LG LP1200DXR 12,000 BTU – What is it?

The LG LP1200DXR 12,000 BTU is a single hose portable AC unit that has 3 functions in 1. It works as a regular AC, a dehumidifier (2.5 pints/h), and a fan with 3 speeds. This machine also comes with an “energy saver mode” that helps save on power by keeping fewer functions running while the compressor is turned off.

At 12,000 BTU’s, this AC can cool a medium to large size room that is up to 400 ft.². It’s auto swing technology moves air up and down and also left and right. Another interesting thing about this machine is its “auto clean” function. This is used to help prevent any growth of mold or any foul odors. It does this by removing moisture from the heat coils which helps keep them cleaner over time.

Lastly, this unit is also equipped with self evaporative technology which shuts off once your drainage is full. It also comes with a 24 hour timer and a remote control.

LG LP1200DXR 12,000 BTU – What I liked?

One thing I noticed right away with the LG LP1200DXR was how powerful it was. It cooled my room very quickly and didn’t really struggle to keep it consistently cold. We used this unit for about four days during some fairly humid weather and only had to empty the drainage once.

The LG LP1200DXR  did a good job of bringing the temperature in our room down to an average of 76°F  (24 °C) from 88°F  (31 °C). I believe it’s auto swing technology plays a big part in its ability to keep your room cool.

LG LP1200DXR 12,000 BTU – What I didn’t like?

Now a lot of people told me that LG was the best. Not only at cooling, but it was regarded as one of the most quiet portable air conditioners on the market. We’ve tested many AC’s over the summer and have to admit that it’s not the quietest that we have tested. I mean it’s not the loudest either, but if I had to compare it to another unit on our website, I’d say it’s comparable to the Honeywell when it comes to noise.

Another thing I didn’t like was its price. I truly believe that there are better single hose machines available for less money.

LG LP1200DXR 12,000 BTU – Overall thoughts

Overall the LG LP1200DXR is an excellent AC with many interesting features. Some of which actually help maintain the cleanliness and longevity of the unit. However, with this machine being almost 5 years old you would think the price might be a little bit lower as well. If price isn’t an issue and you’re looking for a well built and reliable portable solution, then this machine might be exactly what you’re looking for.
