MovinCool OfficePro60 60,000 BTU Commercial Portable Air Conditioner Unit – What you need to know
It’s been a long time since we’ve posted anything and we figured that we wanted our next review to be something a little different than what we’re used to. With that being said we’ve decided to review a commercial unit. These machines are mostly used in server rooms meant for business’ or for any office with a large open space that needs cooling.
Since these machines cost so much we thought it would be a better idea to rent it for a few weeks instead of buying it straight out. Plus we don’t really have a use for it long term as we don’t own an office or a server room of our own.
In this test we used our old workplaces server room. Besides the central AC in the building, the room was previously being cooled using a home portable AC as well as a few well placed fans. The room had approx 4 full server racks that needed to keep from overheating.
*Note: The majority of commercial units require a special power circuit to operate properly in your workplace*
What is it?
The MovinCool Office Pro 60 is a 60,000 BTU industrial sized portable commercial AC that is mainly used for cooling. It can keep most environments up to 1700 sq feet consistently cold depending on the different variables within your room. It’s a fairly eco-friendly unit that uses R-410A refrigerant and also allows for continuous draining through a hose if needed. You can also set a 24×7 timer to operate automatically when you need it most during the day or night.
What I liked?
What I like most about the MovinCool OfficePro60 was how well it replaced the previous setup that was originally there. It kept the room much cooler (sometimes a little too cold) and we didn’t have to use any more additional fans to try and spread out the cold air. Typically you want to keep your server room temperature between 50°F (10°C) and 80°F (27°C) give or take. When we checked on the machine over the course of 4 days, the temperature generally stayed around 60°F (16°C) – 67°F (20°C).
Another thing we liked about this machines is its ability to continuously drain the condensation through a hose. Units that do this are most convenient especially when operating in an office.
What I didn’t like?
Since we haven’t really tested any other commercial portable air conditioner units, we can’t really make a comparison on what we don’t like unless it’s in comparison to a home unit. (We did review the Whynter ARC-143MX, although we didn’t have a server room to try it in at that time.)
However, we will say that this machine is enormous compared to most home portable AC’s. Not only huge, but also VERY heavy. The unit does have casters (wheels), but you will definitely need help unloading this AC off the truck and into your workplace.
Also, this machine is loud. Average room noise level in a home is approx 50db, although this unit outputs up to 71db of noise.
Although intimidating when you see them, commercial portable AC’s are very powerful pieces of equipment. If you have an office space, server room or factory that needs to be cooled you can easily turn to these for a quick and cost effective solution.
Instead of spending a lot of money on new central AC system, why not try the portable route? If it fails to work up to standard, then you can try a more expensive option later on.
