THIS ARTICLE IS OUTDATED. WE HAVE REVIEWED MANY SINGLE HOSE UNITS SINCE. PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR UP TO DATE REVIEWS ON SINGLE HOSE PORTABLE AC’S
Welcome to part 2 of our article on the top portable AC’s for the summer. We decided to break down our selections a little different and provide you with a top choice corresponding to a particular room size. At the end of the day, the size of your room is one of the most important factors that will help determine which machine is right for you.
Small Size Room: Frigidaire FRA053PU1 5,000 BTU Single Hose
When cooling a small size room we chose the Frigidaire FRA053PU1 as the top contender. This unit cools up to 120 ft.² (216 ft.² as per fridigaire.com) and uses a nice swing air technology feature which helps create air movement. I’m not sure how much it affects its overall cooling ability, but it does cool pretty fast. Frigidaire is a respected brand and has always provided quality in their home appliances.
Medium Size Room: Danby DPAC8KDB 8,000 BTU Single Hose
For medium sized rooms we decided to go with the Danby DPAC8KDB 8,000 BTU Unit. This compact and eco-friendly unit doesn’t just cool well but dehumidifiers and works as a regular fan. This machine also has a very interesting drainage system. You can use it standard out-of-the-box or you can attach a garden hose to extend out as far as you need.
Large Size Room: Koldfront Ultracool PAC1401W 14,000 BTU Single Hose
Last but not least we decided to go with Koldfront Ultracool PAC1401W for the best large sized room portable AC. This compact unit is about half the size(and weight) of most dual hose units but can almost do just as good of a job. This award winning machine has multiple functions and cools your room very quickly. Not only that it’s quieter than most dual hose units as well.
Best Price: Haier Black & Decker BPC08CJ 8,000 BTU Single Hose
Now if we had to choose the best single hose unit by just price alone we would have to choose the Haier Black & Decker BPC08CJ. This machine may be confusing to some as it looks old and doesn’t go by ‘Black & Decker’ on some websites. Regardless, this is a great unit for cooling a small to medium sized room. It’s one of the more underrated AC’s in my opinion. I believe the reason this unit flies so far under the radar is because it uses manual drainage which most people see as a drawback. *I’ve seen this unit for as low as $299 on Amazon.com*
