The Best Portable Air Conditioning Units with a Heater

Frigidaire FRA12EPT1 12,000 BTU Single Hose /w Heater

Frigidaire FRA12EPT1 12,000 BTU

To some people it’s difficult to justify purchasing a portable AC for their home environment. Purchasing anything online over $400 is an investment and requires proper research about not only the unit you’re looking for but also about your living space. With so many options to choose from I think it’s wise to purchase a unit that performs more than one function. Most portable AC’s are already equipped with a dehumidifier, although if you can find a unit that also includes a heater and isn’t too expensive, then it’s definitely worth considering. If you live somewhere that gets really cold during the winter months then you may want to take a look at the options below so you can stay comfortable all year round.

Before we begin though let me go over BTU’s again very quickly. You should already know how BTU’s work from our previous articles on what to look for when buying and what is the importance of BTUs. Now BTU’s for heating essentially works the same way when cooling. For a refresher on BTU’s please see the articles mentioned above. Now, let’s get started.

Overall this unit is very underrated in my opinion. It’s heater function may not be as powerful as other units, but if you have experience with portable AC’s you will understand how to get the most out of it. This 4,100 BTU space/auxiliary heater won’t heat up your whole room but will do a good job at keeping you warm beside your computer, while watching TV or while sleeping.

Whynter ARC-14SH 14,000 BTU Dual Hose w/ Heater

Whynter ARC-14SH 14,000 BTU Dual Hose w/ Heater

Whynter ARC-14SH

This machine is probably one of the best portable air conditioners that feature a space heater option. As per the user manual this unit has a total heating power of 13,000 BTU’s and can heat most medium to large sized rooms fairly well. Unfortunately the heating BTU power of this machine is almost impossible to find out unless you actually own or have tested this unit. It’s not even mentioned on their website which I find kind of odd.

This unit actually works very similar to its 14,000 BTU counterpart. At 11,000 BTU’s of heating power this machine also works great for heating medium to large sized rooms. It doesn’t cover as much space as the Whynter ARC-14S, but it’s still an excellent alternative and better than most heating options on the market.

Haier CPN12XH9 12,000 BTU w/ Heater

Haier CPN12XH9 12,000 BTU Single Hose w/ Heater

Haier CPN12XH9

The Haier CPN12XH9 is one of the first portable AC’s I have ever owned. The heat in my old apartment sometimes didn’t turn on at all. This is no minor problem because where I live it can get very, very cold once January and February hit. At 11,000 BTUs of heating power, this machine really came through when I needed my apartment to stay warm. I would recommend this to anyone especially if they are on a budget.

I believe this is one of the cheapest dual hose units that includes a heater. The only problem is I couldn’t find any clear description as to how many BTUs of heating power this machine can generate. Nowhere on the box or in the user manual does it provide this information. I can tell you this though. The heating function is more powerful than the Frigidaire which runs at 4,100 BTU’s, but less powerful than the Whynter which runs at 13,000 BTU’s. I want to say it runs at the same BTU power as its AC function (12,000 BTU’s), but to be on the safe side I’d say it’s somewhere in between the Frigidaire and the Whynter’s BTU power.
